Our History
St. John of God Retirement and Care Center has served Southern California’s elderly for over 80 years, rooted in the mission of the Hospitaller Brothers of St. John of God. What began in 1943 as a small novitiate home in Los Angeles has grown into a full continuum of care, including skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care. The campus expanded through the decades with key additions like the Care Center in 1972, St. John Grande Apartments in 1990, and the St. Richard Pampuri Apartments in 2002. Each development was driven by a spirit of compassion and service for the aging community. Today, the center remains a sanctuary of dignity, comfort, and healing for seniors.
